You know what’s great about the first quarter moon? It’s excitement in the form of a half circle. About a week ahead of the full moon, it’s a moment to pick up the pace on our goals. It’s also a chance to look forward to what’s coming up in your future. If nothing tantalizing comes to mind, well, this is your moment to create the excitement you seek! The energy from this moon phase is present one day before, the day of, and one day after–so make sure to mark your calendar each month. After the dreamy new moon, the eager first quarter moon helps us concretize those desires into something tangible–for example, a new habit. I often work with clients who want to see more magic in their lives, and who wish to develop their spiritual path. One of the easiest ways to do both is to create a morning routine.
What might your morning routine consist of? Glad you asked! Mine begin with a very unexciting probiotic supplement, as I’m still recovering from my “hospital vacation” for 10 days this spring, followed by a surgery. I believe every event in our lives provides us with an opportunity and, since this probiotic has to be taken half an hour before food, it gifts me 30 minutes each day that dedicate to my magical morning routine.
Post-probiotic, I shed my shoes and stand barefoot outside in the grass. I greet and thank my brothers and sisters to the east (the plants, trees, rocks, waters, animals, humans and spirits). I repeat this by turning to the south, west and north. Starting my day gratitude and a direct connection to nature is amazing.
Then, I grab my journal and crack open one of the books I’m working through:
1. Ancestral Healing Made Easy: How to Resolve Ancestral Patterns and Honor Your Family History by Natalia & Terry O’Sullivan
2. Shamanic Dreaming: Connecting with Your Inner Visionary by Carol Day
As a healer, these books help me keep working on my own healing and growth (and that of my ancestors). And as a writer, jotting by hand gives me great joy!
When 30 minutes are almost up, I wrap up by flipping to the current date in one of my favorite books: Every Day Magic: A Pagan Book of Days, edited by Lucya Starza. It’s a book-shaped treasure trove I’ve been flipping through for years.
It also inspired me to create my gift to you, which I hope will be an empowering, easy way to start your own magical daily routine. Starting each Monday in September of 2025, I’ll post a week’s worth of mini-activities on Instagram to enchant your day. Just let your intuition guide you to the right exercise, which will ask just a few minutes of your time. Any required “ingredients” can be found in/around your home.
Ready to get started? You can click here and follow my Instagram account or join my free Crescent Moonletter so you don’t miss any of the daily activities.
Many magical mornings to you all!
